Demolition Training Initiative Gets the Green Light
Here at ProDEM, our staff are experts at what they do. That’s why every contract we work on is of the highest quality, and no job is too big or too small. Of course, extensive training is required in order to carry out the work we do, so new opportunities for others to learn the skills of our trade are always welcome.
That’s why we’re pleased to see that the National Demolition Training Group has agreed to a joint initiative with South and City College in Birmingham. The initiative sets out to provide demolition related training targeting the unemployed, with the aim of them eventually becoming a part of the demolition workforce required in Birmingham and the greater Midland areas.
NDTG Chairman Gary Bishop has said of the initiative: “Here at NDTG it is our aim to educate the next generation of demolition men & women and we are delighted to partner with a college of education to assist them with this great idea”.
The new scheme has approved funding from both Birmingham City Council and Cskils’ investment programme. It will feature basic training by trainers in the college and specialists from the NDTG, and will result in successful pupils receiving a CCDO card (demolition industry specific skills card) and the opportunity to interview for a job in the demolition industry.
South and City College’s pilot course has already proved immensely popular, and quickly became overscribed due to unexpected interest. The course includes training in demolition and asbestos awareness, non-notifiable asbestos removals, manual handlings, PASMA tower scaffold erection and a health and safety course delivered by college trainers and members from the National Demolition Training Group.
The course hopes to see an improved training process for those starting a career in the demolition workforce, providing a sound foundation to promote a passion and drive for the industry.
Here at ProDEM, we know how passionate our staff are about their work, and constantly seek to ensure that our own staff’s training remains up to date. Contact us today to discuss the services we offer, or your upcoming project, and we’ll be happy to help.
